About the project

The new $100 million Adelaide Botanic High School was opened in 2019 and is South Australia’s first vertical secondary school.  The building contains state-of-the-art science, design and technology laboratories, a modern library and research centre, indoor gymnasium and fitness studio, performing arts theatre and a cafeteria.

The Task

Drafting Solutions was engaged to complete the electrical, communications and security drafting services.

The Challenge

The project consists of two buildings, one building being of new construction and the other was a complete fit-out to an existing 1960s building. Once the existing building had been stripped, it posed quite a few challenges as the structure was different to the supplied design documents.

There was also a directive from the architect that all conduits in the new building were to be cast into the slab, so they were not visible in areas with no ceilings.

The lighting design for this project contained several unique fittings, coupled with the fact that much of the building was void of ceilings, this created many issues as the light fittings then needed to be suspended from the concrete structure above.

The Solution

Drafting Solutions created a series of in slab conduit drawings, these drawings were colour coded to facilitate a more efficient installation process.

All light fitting bracket supports and fixings were modelled, scheduled and coordinated on the project. A series of shop drawings were also produced containing information relating the support locations, their lengths as well as the light fitting types & circuits. Where extrusion light fittings were installed, the extrusion lengths were also shown on these plans.
